DIY facials are all the rage.
We all want clear, beautiful skin, but not everyone wants to have to turn to the professionals to get it. This is one of the many reasons why DIY facials have become so popular lately. Although some DIY facials may be beneficial for your skin, many recipes call for ingredients that can actually harm the sensitive skin on your face. The following is a list from our experts of the worst DIY facial ingredients for your skin:
#1. Lemons
Lemon is a good source of Vitamin C, and since Vitamin C is a common ingredient in anti-aging products, it’s easy to think that lemon juice would be a good option for your skin. However, lemons are also highly acidic, and putting lemon juice on your skin can lead to irritation and inflammation. Additionally, lemon juice increases the photosensitivity of the skin, which puts you at a higher risk for premature aging, hyperpigmentation, sunburns and even skin cancer.
#2. Raw Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)
Many DIY beauty blogs claim that ACV makes an effective toner or cleanser for people with acne, but it can cause more harm than good. If you put full strength ACV on your face, it will irritate and inflame your skin, and it could even lead to burns.
#3. Toothpaste
Many people use toothpaste for a quick fix for pimples, and while it will certainly dry out a zit, it will also dry out the skin surrounding it. Some toothpastes are so strong that they can leave chemical burns on the skin!
